The suburb of Dearborn, located in Metro Detroit, is known for its significant Arab population and has the largest per capita Muslim population in the US. This incident arose as a result of tensions surrounding the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Kinloch, who was present at the event, later denounced the activists as “rioters,” emphasizing that they had no right to be there in the first place. Kinloch recounted how both he and the owner of the establishment asked them to leave, but they refused, leading to their forceful removal. He acknowledged the lack of security at the celebration, as it was intended to be a peaceful event where no violence was expected. Consequently, the safety of senior attendees was put at risk.

In response to the demonstration, Rep. Shri Thanedar stood firm in his support for Israel, telling the protesters that their actions would not win support for their cause. He invited opponents to engage in open dialogues at his office and town halls to discuss the matter.

The Detroit Police Department launched an investigation into the incident, and no arrests have been made at this time. Queries for further comments were directed to Jonathan Kinloch, who has yet to respond.
