According to authorities, the incident occurred when Sahara Dula, a 24-year-old woman, was driving in the Upper East Side near an unrelated crime scene. The police were responding to a group allegedly involved in theft at a high-end clothing store around 4:30 p.m.

As officers worked to secure the suspect’s getaway vehicle, one officer noticed Dula driving on the wrong side of the road. After instructing her to pull over, Dula allegedly disregarded the command and struck the officer with her black Lexus. Disturbingly, it was revealed that she admitted to intentional wrongdoing during the investigation.

Dashcam footage captured the shocking moment of impact, showing the officer being propelled over the vehicle’s hood. Fellow officers swiftly rushed to provide assistance, while Dula seemingly exited her car with her hands behind her back before being detained by another officer.

In court documents, Dula reportedly declared, “I told the cop I wanted to go straight, and he wouldn’t move, so I hit him. I did it on purpose.” Witnesses also claim that following the incident, she expressed strong disdain towards law enforcement, shouting expletives and displaying a lack of remorse.

The injured officer suffered fractures in both his arm and leg, requiring medical treatment.

Sahara Dula now faces charges of vehicular assault, impaired driving, and reckless endangerment. However, these charges have raised concerns among some members of the law enforcement community. PBA President Patrick Hendry questioned why Dula has not been charged with attempted murder, considering her alleged admission of intent during the incident.
