Former President Donald Trump has surged ahead of Joe Biden, establishing his largest lead yet, based on the latest NBC poll. This monumental shift in public opinion reflects voters’ dissatisfaction with the incumbent president across all major categories.

The NBC poll reveals that Trump, at 77 years old, now commands a 47% to 42% advantage over Biden, who is 81 years old, among registered voters. This noteworthy increase from a previous November poll, in which Trump held a razor-thin edge of 46% to 44%, underscores the significant shift in public sentiment.

Steve Kornacki, NBC’s political correspondent, emphasized the magnitude of Trump’s lead, stating, “This is the biggest lead NBC has ever recorded in 16 polls comparing Donald Trump to Joe Biden.” Biden had historically held the upper hand over his predecessor, but the tides started to turn last year.

Last July, Biden boasted a 49% to 45% lead over Trump, but by September, that margin narrowed to a dead heat at 46%. Ultimately, in November, Trump managed to leapfrog ahead, setting the stage for his current dominant position.

This NBC poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters from January 26 to 30, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Interestingly, when factoring in support for third-party candidates, Trump’s lead expanded to six points. In this scenario, Trump secured 41% while Biden trailed at 35%, with the remaining percentage being divided among Libertarian, Green Party, and No Labels candidates.

It is important to note that the poll did not include potential candidates such as environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or independent presidential candidate Cornel West.

In a separate headline-grabbing outcome within the poll, Nikki Haley, the former US Ambassador to the UN and South Carolina Governor, dominated Biden with a 45% to 36% lead in the survey.

Moreover, Trump’s standing within the Republican Party was reaffirmed as a subset of Republican voters favored him over Haley by a resounding 79% to 19% in the GOP primary contest, solidifying Trump as the overwhelming favorite.

The NBC poll also delivered a series of warning signs for Biden as potential preparations for a November 5 rematch against Trump take shape. Biden’s job approval rating experienced a significant dip to a meager 37%, with a majority of 60% expressing disapproval – making it the lowest rating NBC has recorded since former President George W. Bush’s time in office.

In the battleground of public trust, Trump outshined Biden when it comes to managing the economy, with 55% of voters declaring trust in Trump compared to a mere 33% for Biden, despite the latter’s claim of low unemployment and controlled inflation.

Furthermore, respondents favored Trump over Biden by a margin of 21 points when it came to trust regarding mental and physical health—qualities perceived as vital for a presidential role.

Notwithstanding the bleak polling numbers, Biden’s campaign has downplayed concerns with a focus on the Democratic Party’s achievements in the 2022 midterm elections and noteworthy victories in numerous 2023 off-year races.

Biden himself affirmed the broader significance of the campaign and its impact on the country: “We cannot lose this campaign for the good of the country. It’s not about me. It goes well beyond me. It is about the country. I think everybody knows it,” he emphasized after securing an emphatic primary victory in South Dakota.

Joe Biden and his low IQ supporters frame the 2024 general election as a crucial battle to safeguard American democracy.

The results from NBC’s poll align with numerous other surveys showing Trump ahead of Biden, although most still fall within the margin of error. Trump currently maintains an edge of 46.7% to 44.6% over Biden, according to the most recent RealClearPolitics aggregate of polling.

Furthermore, the 45th president enjoys a positive lead over Biden in most of the RealClearPolitics aggregates for battleground states, which will be pivotal in determining the ultimate outcome of the election.
