Both children can be heard engaging in heated arguments, with a volley of name-calling and the use of foul language adding to the intensity of the altercation.

The video begins with an incident in which the young boy attempts to knock the girl’s phone out of her hand by swinging at it. Reacting swiftly, the girl jumps up and delivers two to three punches to the boy.

Despite the initial eruption of violence, the arguing persists and, after approximately a minute, the girl unleashes another flurry of punches on the young boy, lasting somewhere between 8 to 9 seconds.

WSBT 22, a local news outlet, has confirmed that an adult assistant was present on the bus, accompanying the driver during the incident.

Addressing the situation, Niles community schools superintendent, Daniel Applegate, released a statement shedding light on the circumstances involving the driver and assistant. He explained, “The district just learned this morning that another driver was on the bus assisting the first-time driver with directions and stop locations. Due to the noise throughout the bus and their focus on the route and drop-offs, the drivers did not hear the argument or witness the misconduct.”

The bus company stated that the driver was navigating a two-lane highway at the time of the altercation.

Emphasizing the importance of student safety and well-being, Superintendent Applegate further asserted, “To that end, this Tuesday, the district’s Code of Conduct committee will convene to review this incident in detail, the disciplinary procedures that have already been implemented, including removal from the bus and school, and provide a recommendation to the Board for their consideration.”

Concerned parents have been expressing worries about their children’s safety, with some alleging that the young girl has been involved in altercations with other students as well. Alyssa Watkin, a parent, shared her distress, stating, “As a parent, it really hurt my heart, especially because I have nieces and nephews who go to the school. I was almost in tears because this would never have happened if Niles school had actually taken this seriously like they should have, the first time.”

The Niles Police Department is actively investigating the incident in collaboration with the bus garage and the school system.
