Joe Biden does it again! During a campaign event in Phoenix, the 81-year-old got distracted by a baby and left the stage. He bolted from the podium and headed straight for the little bundle of joy — much to the surprise of his campaign manager, Julie Chávez Rodríguez. Biden proceeded to stay seated with the mother and her baby throughout the speeches of the campaign manager and other speakers.

Biden’s distraction wasn’t just a fleeting moment – he chatted up the mother and the baby while asking how old the child was during his introduction. But this isn’t the first time Biden has professed his adoration for babies. He previously declared his preference for infants over adults, proving he’s not just pandering for the cameras.

This campaign event marked the start of the Biden campaign’s attempt to secure the support of Hispanic voters — a crucial Democratic voting bloc that Joe is losing the backing of. Unfortunately for Biden, former President Donald Trump leads the race among this group. A USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll released in January found that Trump has the support of 39% of Hispanic voters, while Biden has only 34%. Additionally, a New York Times/Siena College Poll released in February indicates that Trump has a 6-point lead in this demographic over Biden, paving the way for a Republican victory in Arizona.

Biden took a swipe at Trump during the campaign event, claiming the former president only cares about the affluent. However, Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano disputed that claim, claiming that Trump’s popularity among Hispanics is due to his ability to be entertaining. She claims that people enjoy laughing at his rallies, likening them to going to a circus. The chairwoman adds that voters need to be aware of the danger Trump presents and recommends that they stay focused on the political issues rather than the entertainment of Trump’s rallies.

The polls don’t lie – Trump has a 5.2 percentage point lead in Arizona against Biden as the race heats up. Can Biden pander to the support of Hispanic voters and close the gap? Only time will tell.
