Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) has successfully completed his second rescue mission in Haiti, saving 13 stranded Americans over the weekend. The operation, which included the rescue of a two-month-old baby and a three-year-old girl, comes shortly after Mills saved ten Americans who were associated with the “Have Faith” orphanage.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Mills expressed his frustration with the lack of assistance provided by the U.S. government to these Americans. “Like many, the [Americans] made all attempts to work through the [U.S.] government but with no success,” he stated. “I’ve now rescued more Americans from Haiti than the entire Biden administration. If we include the 255 Americans rescued in October of 2023 and the Americans rescued from Afghanistan in 2021, this is not the first time.”

The situation in Haiti has been rapidly deteriorating, with powerful gangs seizing control of the capital city. Former Prime Minister Ariel Henry recently resigned amidst the escalating crisis. Aid groups warn that over one million Haitians are at risk of famine as gangs and escaped prisoners have taken control of the country’s food sources.

Mills criticized the Biden administration for its lack of leadership in handling global crises, including the situation in Haiti. “You have to almost shame them into doing their job, or to at least shame them into the point where they actually will just support efforts by American citizens who are willing to go over and conduct these rescues and help with the consulate processing once they come out,” he said.

Several American-based nonprofit organizations, such as Project Dynamo, have also been involved in rescue operations for U.S. citizens stranded in Haiti. These efforts aim to provide assistance to those trapped overseas.

“Americans deserve support from their government. Not the pattern of abandonment this administration has shown.” – Cory Mills

Meanwhile, the State Department has announced plans to charter its first flight out of Cap-Haitian for Americans who are able to safely reach the city’s airport. However, the lack of ground transportation to the airport poses a challenge, and the journey is considered dangerous. The airport is approximately 130 miles north of Port-au-Prince, and the highways leading to it are largely blocked and controlled by gangs.
