In Elk Grove, California, Pleasant Grove Elementary School has become the focal point of a controversial situation that has left parents outraged. This uproar stems from the discovery of a supposedly “secret” LGBTQ club that was initiated by a third-grade teacher on campus.

The club’s purported purpose is to promote inclusivity among curious fourth and sixth-grade students regarding their sexuality and gender identity. However, the primary point of contention lies in the decision to establish the club without obtaining parental consent.

Unidentified but concerned parents have expressed their anger after learning about the formation of this LGBTQ club by a third-grade staffer, coined as the ‘you be you’ club at Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Elk Grove. The teacher extended an invitation to students in the fourth through sixth grades to join private meetings.

One parent, Brittani Cortina, shared that her older child informed her about the teacher discussing the club during class. According to Cortina, the teacher conveyed the message that “boys like boys and girls like girls.”

Enraged by the lack of transparency from the district, parents gathered at a recent Elk Grove Unified School board meeting to voice their complaints. Kirk Thomas, a parent with children in the district, emphasized that there was no permission slip or notification sent to parents.

This decision to establish an LGBTQ club behind closed doors, without informing or involving parents, only amplifies concerns regarding school districts indoctrinating children with far-leftist ideologies surrounding gender identity and sexuality. The district’s reluctance to provide answers or disclose details about the club’s guidelines and curriculum further exacerbates the issue, as stated by Heidi Moore, another concerned parent.

Meanwhile, there were a few parents who voiced support for the LGBTQ club and defended the secrecy. Tiffany Woods, one of those supportive parents, argued that such a club is crucial for children’s mental health and well-being, providing them with an additional support system and validation to navigate their daily lives.

While it is permissible for schools to have LGBTQ clubs and other similar groups on their campuses, the controversy at Pleasant Grove arises due to the club’s formation without parental notification or permission. This raises suspicion in light of the ongoing national debate regarding the push of LGBTQ ideology onto children.

This issue becomes especially pertinent when addressing how school districts handle matters concerning gender identity. In some cases, districts have instructed teachers to keep information regarding children showing signs of gender dysphoria concealed from their parents.

Fortunately, in this instance, parents discovered the existence of the LGBTQ club and spoke out against it. However, the underlying concern remains: how many other districts are forming these types of groups without parents’ knowledge, thus evading scrutiny?
