In a worrisome development, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is warning agents to be vigilant for members of the infamous Venezuelan prison gang, Tren de Aragua, attempting to cross the southern border. This alarming trend coincides with the ongoing refusal of the socialist regime in Venezuela to repatriate its citizens.

According to an internal CBP intelligence bulletin obtained by Fox News, the agency has shared specific identifying tattoos and characteristics associated with Tren de Aragua, who have been illegally entering the United States via the southern border. The gang has recently come into the spotlight after it was revealed that the brother of a suspect in the tragic murder of Georgia student Laken Riley has ties to this group. Both the suspect and his brother are Venezuelan nationals who entered the country unlawfully.

Authorities have long been warning about Tren de Aragua, also known as TdA, notorious for their violent turf wars and expansion into nations across South and Central America. Their sinister plans involve establishing a foothold within the United States where they are already linked to organized crime. Disturbingly, the FBI has raised concerns that this gang could potentially collaborate with the bloodthirsty MS-13.

Just last month, two members of Tren de Aragua were identified as suspects in the assault of two NYPD officers. However, CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sources have expressed their frustration, as deporting Venezuelan gang members has proven to be exceptionally difficult due to the lack of cooperation from Venezuela, which refuses to repatriate its nationals.

Shockingly, despite encountering over 335,000 individuals at the border, only 834 Venezuelans were deported in FY 2023, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) data. The current administration had initiated direct repatriation flights to Venezuela from the US in an effort to discourage illegal border crossings. While these flights were met with criticism from immigration activists, citing human rights abuses in Venezuela, administration officials confirmed they were planning to increase the number of flights as they viewed it as a crucial component of their broader immigration strategy. The officials were pleased to note that Mexico had also begun flying migrants directly to Venezuela.

However, the Maduro regime abruptly halted the deportation flights from the US and Mexico after the reimposition of certain economic sanctions by the United States, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. According to officials, the flights came to an end in January after approximately 1,800 deportations. The administration had previously granted limited exceptions to sanctions on a Venezuelan airline in order to facilitate deportation flights from Canada and Latin America. It is important to note that prior to initiating the deportation flights, protections had been extended to nearly 500,000 Venezuelans already present in the US in September. Additionally, Venezuela is part of a controversial program called CHNV, which allows 30,000 migrants with sponsors from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the United States each month.

Although Venezuelans can still be deported to Mexico, it is common for many to re-enter the US illegally after deportation, making them what authorities refer to as “gotaways.”
