The incident occurred when Schiff, a Democrat who is also running for the Senate seat vacated by the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, parked his car in a downtown garage before attending a gathering with supporters. However, before heading to Ristorante Rocca in nearby Burlingame for dinner, he fell victim to a car break-in, resulting in the loss of his bags.

Schiff confirmed the theft to the Chronicle, expressing his frustration at the situation. However, he also took the opportunity to thank Joe Cotchett, a prominent lawyer backing his Senate campaign. “Yes, they took my bags,” Schiff said. “But I’m here to thank Joe.”
