In a move aimed at enhancing gun control measures, the Biden regime announced on Wednesday its plans to implement stricter regulations by imposing license requirements and increasing federal background checks on gun dealers across the country, irrespective of where firearms are sold.

The Justice Department championed the initiative through a rule proposed last year. The objective is to close perceived “loopholes” in gun sales that bypass licensing requirements and background checks, thereby broadening federal gun control authorities under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) signed into law by Joe Biden in June 2022.

Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized that the new regulation would mandate licensing and background checks for any entity selling firearms for profit, regardless of the sales channel, be it internet, gun shows, or brick-and-mortar stores.

Joe Biden, echoing the sentiments of families impacted by gun violence, stated, “Today, my Administration [Regime] is taking action to make sure fewer guns are sold without background checks,” underscoring the necessity of curbing gun sales to domestic abusers and felons to save lives and prevent tragedies.

While around 80,000 firearms dealers are already federally licensed, an estimated 20,000 sellers have operated without federal oversight, as reported by the Associated Press. The legislation driving these regulations was a bipartisan effort led by Senators Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).

However, GOP senators Cornyn and Tillis are staunchly opposing the rule, labeling it as unconstitutional and vowing to challenge its implementation before it takes effect in 30 days. They argue that the rule deviates from the original legislative intent and unfairly expands federal authority over gun sales.

Notably, Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) is at the forefront of a House battle under the Congressional Review Act to contest the regulation. The National Rifle Association (NRA) Institute for Legislative Action condemned the rule as an assault on lawful gun owners’ rights and pledged to mobilize against it through legal means.

Despite this opposition, supporters such as Democrat Senator Murphy welcomed the rule, lauding its potential to increase background checks and prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands, ultimately aiding in the quest for universal background checks and enhanced public safety.

The push for stricter gun regulations comes in the aftermath of tragic incidents like the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting in May 2022, where Salvador Ramos committed a devastating act of violence. Data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) revealing that thousands of illegally trafficked firearms have entered the US further underscores the urgency of bolstering gun control measures.

Biden Regime Targets Political Opposition with “Terrorism”: DOJ Publishes New Firearms Dealer Rule

Original article below:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) recently released its National Firearms Commerce and Trafficking Assessment (NFCTA), Vol. III, undermining the leftist narrative surrounding the so-called “gun show loophole.” Contrary to decades of hysteria and subsequent gun control pushes, the NFCTA reveals that gun shows play an insignificant role in intrastate and interstate firearm trafficking.

The NFCTA: Examining Firearm Trafficking Channels

The NFCTA provides an in-depth analysis of gun trafficking, encompassing both domestic and international channels. Part four of the report focuses on “source-to-market” trafficking, which encompasses the movement of firearms within states (intrastate), between states (interstate), and between the U.S. and foreign countries (international).

Discerning the Impact of Gun Shows on Firearm Trafficking

Contrary to popular belief, the NFCTA data showcases that gun shows, flea markets, and auctions have a minimal presence in firearm trafficking cases. Only 3.2 percent of intrastate trafficking cases investigated by the ATF involve the “trafficking of firearms at gun shows, flea markets, or auctions.”

Similarly, gun shows play a minor role in interstate trafficking cases, representing just 4.3 percent of the investigations conducted by the ATF.

Regarding international trafficking cases originating from the United States, gun shows, flea markets, or auctions account for just 4.5 percent of the cases analyzed.

Shockingly, when examining international trafficking cases from other countries into the United States, gun shows, flea markets, and auctions do not even warrant mention due to their lack of involvement.

Limited Involvement of Federal Firearms License (FFL) Holders

Part five of the NFCTA reveals that “relatively few investigations” involve Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders and trafficking through gun shows. However, it is important to note that these investigations did uncover instances where individual traffickers were involved with the trafficking of over 50 firearms each.

Conclusion

The newly released ATF National Firearms Commerce and Trafficking Assessment (NFCTA) effectively shatters the left’s long-standing narrative surrounding the so-called “gun show loophole.” The data clearly illustrates that gun shows, flea markets, and auctions play a marginal role in firearm trafficking, both domestically and internationally. This report calls for a more accurate understanding of the factors contributing to illicit firearm flows, urging policymakers to focus their efforts on more relevant areas rather than perpetuating baseless claims about gun shows.
