In a heroic act of self-defense, a grandmother from New Mexico has become the talk of the town after shooting down a criminal who had barged into her home. Anissa Tinnin, the brave grandmother, managed to protect herself and her 4-year-old granddaughter from what was meant to be a peaceful movie night.

The incident occurred when Tinnin and her granddaughter were enjoying the Taylor Swift Eras Tour film, singing and dancing together. Little did they know that their evening of fun would soon take a terrifying turn. Out of nowhere, a stranger, later identified as 34-year-old Joseph Rivera by the police, burst into their home, seeking refuge from the authorities who were after him.

Earlier that night, Albuquerque police had chased Rivera after catching him allegedly driving a stolen car. Their efforts to apprehend him included deploying spike strips, but Rivera continued driving on the vehicle’s rims until he crashed. He then fled on foot, eventually ending up in Tinnin’s yard and storming into her house.

Recalling the alarming incident, Tinnin said, “He grabbed me and was upset and said to give him my keys. He said he didn’t want to go to jail. He did threaten to hurt my granddaughter and me.” Despite her fear, the grandmother remained composed and tried to reason with the intruder, eventually handing over her key fob to convince him to leave.

Realizing the imminent danger, Tinnin dialed 911 and sent her granddaughter to hide in the bedroom. With her gun in hand, she prepared to defend herself in case the burglar returned — and her instincts were spot on. Moments later, as the sirens of approaching police became louder, Rivera broke through the locked front door and charged at Tinnin.

Without hesitation, Tinnin warned him repeatedly to back off, stating, “I have a gun. Get back. Get back. I will f–king shoot you.” As the threat escalated, Tinnin made the split-second decision to fire, injuring Rivera. When he questioned why she shot him, she responded firmly, “Because you’re in my f–king house!”

Even after neutralizing the threat, Tinnin momentarily shifted gears to offer assistance to the wounded intruder, offering water and aid. However, she made it clear that any further tricks would be met with another shot. Fortunately, the police arrived shortly after and apprehended Rivera.

Reflecting on the intense ordeal, Tinnin expressed her belief in divine intervention, stating, “I do believe we had a guardian angel here with us, and I do firmly believe that God was watching over us.”

Officials have now charged Rivera with burglary, attempted felony, and auto theft, adding to his extensive rap sheet, which includes five previous felony convictions for similar crimes. Disturbingly, Rivera had failed to appear in court for a prior charge, despite being released on bail.

Tinnin took to Facebook to share her experience, expressing her frustration with the state of the city: “This city is a mess. Criminals are ruining innocent people’s lives every day. I’m sick of keeping quiet about the disaster this city’s leadership has created.”

The courageous actions of Anissa Tinnin serve as a reminder that law-abiding citizens should never shy away from defending themselves and their loved ones in the face of danger.
