Minnetonka, MN – The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has unveiled shocking body camera footage capturing a fatal shootout in Minnetonka, where two deputies were injured and a man lost his life.

The incident transpired at a residence on the 13000 block of Crestwood Drive East at approximately 11:15 a.m. on April 10, as deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office sought to apprehend an individual wanted for multiple felonies. The situation quickly escalated when 28-year-old Clint Hoyhtya, who was not the target of the arrest warrant, initiated gunfire with an assault-style rifle, as reported by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. In response, deputies engaged in a firefight before establishing a perimeter and withdrawing.

The recently released body camera footage presents the harrowing ordeal from the perspectives of four different deputies seeking cover and combating the assailant. Although Hoyhtya remains out of sight in the footage, the intense exchange of gunfire is distinctly audible. The footage also captures the moment Deputy Christopher Heihn sustains a gunshot wound to his hand.

Within less than a minute of knocking on the door, the deputies are shown at the rear of the residence, demanding that Hoyhtya reveal his hands before exchanging gunfire.

Afterward, law enforcement uncovered that Hoyhtya was outfitted in tactical gear, including a tactical vest and body armor.

In the heat of the confrontation, one deputy is heard urgently discussing the need to evacuate nearby residents shortly before rushing to a vehicle, stating, “We got multiple officers pinned down.”

Following additional gunfire, the BCA has confirmed that law enforcement ultimately discharged their weapons, resulting in the tragic death of Hoyhtya. The Hennepin County medical examiner confirmed that he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

The BCA has disclosed that Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies Heihn, Tyler Jacob, and Keith McNamara discharged their department rifles during the shootout, while Deputy Steven Tomasko discharged his department handgun.

The individual deputies were seeking to apprehend is now in custody.
