In a dramatic turn of events, a would-be jewelry thief’s audacious plans were thwarted on Saturday night when an alert US Army veteran and jewelry store owner, Garrett Peddicord, chased the intruder out of his Nebraska store at gunpoint.

Recalling the tense incident to KETV, Peddicord revealed, “I typically carry a firearm on my waist, even after hours. It’s just one of those things: keys, wallet, firearm.” Little did the thief know that he was attempting to rob a store owned by a vigilant and well-prepared veteran.

Peddicord, who was working late into the night in the back of Sidrony Jewelers in Omaha, noticed a commotion on his surveillance screens. To his shock, the footage revealed a burglar dressed head to toe in black, hurling a rock through the shop’s window and deftly crawling through the broken glass, presumably expecting to have free reign among the precious gems.

Unwilling to let the criminal have his way, Peddicord courageously stormed into the showroom with his firearm drawn, catching the thief red-handed, standing over a case containing some of the store’s most valuable pieces. The tense standoff was captured on the store’s security footage, with the burglar found “almost comically holding the tool over the glass,” as Peddicord vividly recalled.

Shocking the intruder with his presence, Peddicord shouted, drawing the man’s attention towards the barrel of the gun, a sight unnerving enough to send the thief scrambling back through the shattered window in a hasty retreat.

But this is the one tool that I hope to never have to use.”

A seasoned veteran, Peddicord attributed his swift and calculated response to his military training, emphasizing, “Thank my lucky stars that I put so much thought and time and repetitive training and practice into how to responsibly carry a firearm.”
