The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is currently undertaking an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on Friday involving Tiffin police. The incident unfolded when a call was received by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 11:44 a.m., indicating that 19-year-old Blake Fleure had reportedly harmed himself and was inside a vehicle. Subsequently, both the sheriff’s office and Tiffin police initiated a search for Fleure in order to provide him with medical assistance.

Tiffin police reported that at 11:55 a.m., one of their officers located the vehicle being driven by Fleure and attempted to perform a traffic stop near the intersection of West Perry Street and Franklin Street. The purpose of the traffic stop was to ensure Fleure’s well-being.

According to an official press release from the Tiffin police, Fleure exited his vehicle brandishing a knife and aggressively approached the officer. In response, the officer chose to retreat and repeatedly instructed Fleure to halt his advance. However, Fleure continued his charge towards the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon twice in self-defense. Tragically, Fleure later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

In efforts to provide transparency, Tiffin police released both dashcam footage and doorbell video capturing the events leading up to the shooting. The footage aims to present a comprehensive account of the incident.

Following the incident, the Tiffin Police Department promptly requested the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to conduct an independent inquiry into the shooting.
