Madison Bergmann, a 24-year-old teacher at River Crest Elementary School, was arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a fifth-grade student. The incident came to light after the victim’s mother overheard Bergmann talking to her son on the phone. The boy’s father then uncovered text messages exchanged between Bergmann and his son and took matters into his own hands by walking into the River Crest Elementary School with printouts of the conversations.

The content of the text chain was disturbing, including mentions of multiple encounters in the classroom during lunch or after school. The accused also allegedly shared how much she enjoyed “making out” with the child and how much they kissed one another. Gauss uncovered a folder with the victim’s name on it in Bergmann’s bag, which contained handwritten notes talking about their relationship. One of which specified that Bergmann’s 5th-grade cousin could not speak to a man the same way they do, highlighting the individual feature of their connection.

Bergmann stated under questioning that the victim’s mother gave her the child’s phone number during their family vacation to Afton Alps, a skiing and snowboarding park for winter break, in December. In the same month, Bergmann became engaged to her long-time boyfriend, according to her social media.
